I love everything about music, I can spend hours and hours online reading and watching videos
about music. I like all the many new VI instruments and effects that come out weekly, it seems.
I am blown away by the ease of just opening up a program on my computer and starting to
record. It's easy to get caught up in all the noise that is outside ones hopes and dreams and
much too often I read or hear from those that have had the noise steer them away from their
goals in music.
All music starts with the first and most important instrument, YOU! This reminds me of a story.
In my younger days we did not have much money but in the house there was a 12 string
and a piano and I used to spend hours and hours playing them. I used to look through the magazines
at all the gear and wish I could buy it and thought how great I could be if I just had this or that.
I would cruise up to the local music store and checkout all the gear and talk with people.
One day I was in the music store and there was this dude shredding on a guitar and I was watching
him thinking, man that is one awesome guitar! So I had to ask him, what kind of guitar is
that? He replied, It's just a cheap aftermarket guitar, I replied, wow it sounds awesome! I then
asked him what kind of guitar does he own, He said his guitar was the one being worked on, a strat
and then he said something that has stuck with me all these years.
He said: Dude it's not about the guitar, it's about you, every note ever played on the guitar
is at the end of your fingers tips.
The story here is simple, spend time on "you" the instrument and forget about the noise.
REASON U
Matt.
